This week I started and finished an adults hat made with Stylecraft Chunky Harlequin, and a baby's waistcoat from the same yarn. In total, I used 2 balls. Last week I started a hat in Ice Yarn, making a ribbed hat. This took me a while because it was US sc in back loops only, so I had to concentrate to just do one loop. If I was to do it again, I would do US dc so that it goes a bit faster!
I put the waistcoat on a teddy to model it, the yarn is hard to photograph!
And here are the hats:
The purple one matches the baby hat I made our little girl.
And I had enough yarn left over to make 2 headbands!

Home poncho
I finally finished my poncho, it's a bit of a short one, but rather warm. At first it was made with leftovers, odds and sods, then the 2nd half was made with some Ice Yarn. All done in DK.

Fingerless gloves, free pattern
1 pair size 4mm knitting
needles
1 ball 100g wool
1 tapestry needle
This is the yarn I used, although it is the orange-y version http://www.sirdar.co.uk/yarns/fashion/Summer%20Stripes%20Dk Sombrero 315
Cast on 28 stitches. This was just right for my hand, I don’t consider myself to have large or small hands, around average. When adapting the size, make sure to keep to an even number of stitches. As a guide, 24 for woman, 28-32 for a man.

How I started my blanket
In other words, mini tutorial.
Based on the wool, I selected the needles. I used the size suggested on the wool. As I am not aiming for a specific size I didn't knit a swatch.
I cast on lots of stictches until one needle was quite full. This turned out to be 126 if I have counted it correctly. The first 18 rows were all knit. The next ones are knit 5, purl across, knit the last five. Turn it around, the next row: knit all across. I'm carrying on this way until I reach about a square in size, then I will knit each row for a bit, then knit in another patter, keeping a few stiches at the end of each row always knitted so that it doesn't curl.
When I have used almost all of the ball I will cast off, and see how big it is. Or if it I decide it is long enough. Then on to the next ball of wool, casting on 126ish, making another long length. Once this is the same length I will sew the 2 together. If I want it to be wider I will knit a 3rd from the last ball of wool.
This is going to be a long project, so I have other smaller ones on the go at the same time.
I aim to knit at least 4 rows a day, it will keep the progress consistant I'm hoping.
