Baby blanket for a friend

I wanted to make small granny squares for once, so I made this baby blanket for husbands cousin who is due October, they're keeping the sex a surprise so it has some boy and girl colours in it. Joining the squares was such a pain, no matter how I tried there was a ridge. I tried join as you go but I didn't like it, and it made joining the small squares to a big one rather tricky, so I frogged it. It's about 22".

Chunky baby blanket

Another item I made for our unborn girl! Took me ages because I ran out of yarn and couldn't find more for ages. It's a never ending granny square in King Cole Chunky. It took a massive 7-8 balls! No border on it. It worked up fast at first, then grew slower and slower. Towards the end, a ball would barely do 2 rounds.

Blanket WIP

I am currently making a C2C (corner to corner) granny afghan. The colours don't quite feel right, so I may add in a bit of orange now and then, just to spice it up. I'm hoping to make it big enough to fit on our bed, which is kingsize.

I made a colour pallet from the blanket. Dark purple, bright yellow, black and pale purple.

I have completed 2 large granny squares, and a summer wrap, all can be seen (just!) in the photo below, covering my legs.

Blanket update

Here is the overview so far. I've used 4 different shades of yellow so far, some more noticeable then others.

I still have the rest of the current ball, and a new 100g ball to crochet on, hopefully to be finished by 11th March.

How I started my blanket

In other words, mini tutorial.

Based on the wool, I selected the needles. I used the size suggested on the wool. As I am not aiming for a specific size I didn't knit a swatch.

I cast on lots of stictches until one needle was quite full. This turned out to be 126 if I have counted it correctly. The first 18 rows were all knit. The next ones are knit 5, purl across, knit the last five. Turn it around, the next row: knit all across. I'm carrying on this way until I reach about a square in size, then I will knit each row for a bit, then knit in another patter, keeping a few stiches at the end of each row always knitted so that it doesn't curl.

When I have used almost all of the ball I will cast off, and see how big it is. Or if it I decide it is long enough. Then on to the next ball of wool, casting on 126ish, making another long length. Once this is the same length I will sew the 2 together. If I want it to be wider I will knit a 3rd from the last ball of wool.

This is going to be a long project, so I have other smaller ones on the go at the same time.
I aim to knit at least 4 rows a day, it will keep the progress consistant I'm hoping.
